The days of intense heat are beginning and with it new cares for your dog. We must be very attentive to our pets and how they behave during those days.
If your dog shows signs such as intense panting, excessive drooling, red gums, rapid pulse, glassy eyes, vomiting or diarrhea, these could be signs of heat stroke in your dog .
What to do if you suspect your dog is suffering from heat stroke:
- Contact your veterinarian quickly.
- Move the dog to an area out of the sun, if possible with a passage of cool air.
- Give him small amounts of water to drink.
- Pour room temperature water over his coat. NEVER ice or ice water (it can shock your dog).
Remember that your dog likes to lie down in a sunny spot, as it makes him feel happy and relaxed – just like when you sunbathe on the beach! But if you see him sleeping in the full sun for a long period of time, it’s best to gently wake him up and encourage him to go to a shady place with water.
