Basic care for your dog in autumn

GESPETFOOD’s veterinary team gives you advice for this season.

The arrival of autumn brings with it some changes that require specific care for your dog. The most important thing for us is the health and well-being of your furry friend, that’s why we have made this list for you:

BASIC CARE FOR YOUR DOG IN AUTUMN

  1. Shedding hair: brush him and take care of his skin.

During the autumn months, our dog’s coat moults, starting to lose its thinner hair, which is replaced by a denser layer of hair, allowing them to adapt to weather changes and lower temperatures.

During this time, you should brush them almost daily and use quality hair care products to keep their skin and coat healthy and well cared for. Otherwise, it is possible that he may suffer from different skin problems, as well as the appearance of knots in his coat.

  1. Beware of the change of weather: colds and other pathologies.

We must be careful with the sudden changes in temperature that can sometimes occur with the arrival of autumn, since the cold causes the defenses of our dog’s body to work less efficiently, which makes it more vulnerable and prone to colds and other diseases.

  1. External parasites and other diseases:

External parasites such as the sandfly, a flying insect that transmits leishmaniasis, find in this time of the year one of their moments of greatest proliferation, so it is important that our pet is protected with preventive measures such as vaccination against leishmaniasis and use of antiparasitic products, such as collars, pipettes, sprays or shampoos.

In addition, we have to perform a general deworming of our pet because during the summer there are many cases of parasite contraction due to their proliferation due to the heat and the fact that our pets spend more time outdoors and in natural spaces.

  1. Beware of puddles: stagnant water.

The fact that our pet has drunk water from a rain puddle is a not uncommon cause for a visit to the veterinarian. We should not let our canine drink from this type of water sources because in many occasions they act as a reservoir of bacteria and parasites extremely dangerous for its health.

  1. Arthrosis:

The drop in temperatures that comes hand in hand with autumn also constitutes a negative factor for diseases such as osteoarthritis whose symptoms are aggravated in these months.

We hope our advice and the information we share with you will help you, in the hope that your furry friend will have a wonderful and healthy life.
