In spring the pine processionaries come out of their hiding places one after the other coming down from the high peaks, it is the favorite season for them and for our curious dogs it is an almost mortal danger.
These insects are covered with toxic stinging hairs which, when they stick into the skin, release a dangerous toxin which, on contact, the hairs detach and float in the air, causing allergies and urticaria, especially if they stick into the tongue and larynx.
The best thing to do is always to avoid them and to be very aware of what our dogs are doing.
If they touch your furry friend they can even lead to the death of the animal in case of ingestion by toxic attack of the respiratory tract.
