No photo is cuter than your dog posing in front of the Christmas tree you’ve lovingly decorated. But not always dogs and Christmas trees are the best combination, so the GESPETFOOD veterinary team brings some tips for you:
- Reinforce your Christmas tree so it doesn’t fall down, put a more stable base and with much more weight.
- If it is your dog’s first Christmas, we advise you to avoid ornaments and celebrate Christmas with a simple tree. The time has come to train your furry friend!
- Be careful with the electrical cord of the lights. Anything that glitters is hard for our curious dogs to resist, but it can be very dangerous. He can get caught in the lights, get electrocuted or ingest part of the bulb and wire.
- Put the most fragile ornaments that you are most fond of at the top of the tree, where they can’t reach them to play.
- Do not decorate the tree with food. Popcorn garlands, chocolate ornaments and candy canes are out of the decorations for your dog’s safety.
- Keep natural decorations in high places, there are plants such as holly, mistletoe and poinsettias that can be toxic to your furry friend. As well as pine needles are small and sharp and can cause injuries to your dog’s mouth and intestines.
- Keep candles up high and out of the tree. Never keep them in a place where they can be knocked off balance or be hit by your pet.
- Put presents away until Christmas morning, we don’t want them to be your dog’s bath or new toy.
